Hospitality welcomes new government
July saw Labour win a significant majority in the general election – and the hospitality industry is welcoming it with open arms. Night Time Industries Association chief Executive Michael Kill commented: “The real work begins now. After years of feeling misunderstood and undervalued, we must work towards changing the narrative around the value of the night time economy.” He also said that the new government had an opportunity for meaningful and transactional change.
UKHospitality responds to the King’s Speech
After the King outlined the government’s plans for the year ahead, Kate Nicholls, CEO of UKHospitality has responded, saying: “The next session of Parliament will be essential in kickstarting the growth needed to achieve the government’s objectives. I’m pleased that the key asks of UKHospitality are being delivered on and that our concerns have been heard loud and clear.”
England’s Euros success gives pubs a vital lift
The success of the Three Lions brought about a badly-needed money-spinner for London venues, with Duncan Sambrook, managing director of Sambrook’s Brewery saying: “It’s been doom and gloom in our industry, I can’t emphasise how important this is.” The Night Time Industries Association estimates the tournament will have generated nearly £1 billion in additional revenue.
Bars trained to help keep women safe on nights out
In Trowbridge, Wiltshire, bars and pubs have come together to try and help women feel safer at night. Part of the training includes a scheme called Pubwatch that allows pubs and clubs to share information about potentially vulnerable customers.
